Advisory to Doğuş Group in its sale of Tansaş, a leading supermarket chain in Turkey
Tansaş, established in 1973, is the second
largest supermarket retailer in Turkey with 206 stores generating net sales in
excess of USD800 million in 2004. Total sales area was 123,053 sqm, indicating
597 sq m on average as at the end of 2004. Tansaş is listed on the İstanbul
Stock Exchange and is majority owned by Doğuş Holding, which is one of the
largest conglomerates in Turkey with interests in financial services,
automotive distribution and tourism sectors, generating total sales of USD5.9
billion in 2004
Migros / Koç paid a total sum of USD387
million in exchange of 71% stake in Tansaş. Total valuation including time
value adjustments payable to Doğuş is USD575 million
The transaction has strengthened Migros’
market leader position in the organized food retail sector in Turkey.
